Sri Ramanna Hamparagundi

Coming from a very poor family earning daily wages in childhood Sri Ramanna Hamparagundi understood the plight of the poor and the needy in early days itself. As a teacher of political science his immense knowledge of the society especially the underserved comes handy in his service areas. Hailing from Maski, a remote town in North Karnataka that is under development in many ways needed a citizen who cares for the development of his town and the region. Sri Ramanna Hamparagundi is one such citizen who is serving the society every day and minute. During COVID lockdown, he was the first to distribute the food packets to daily wage workers who had lost their jobs. He took care of the patient’s medical treatment expenses by personally investing hi earnings. He lent hand during the cremation of poor COVID patients with no attenders. Renders free coaching to the below economic students who have lost hope of continuing their education for monetary reasons. Started a weekly campaign of volunteering for the society in the name of “Sunday for Social Work” that aims at mobilizing the youth and getting work done for the society. Some of the highlights of this programme are, cleaning the public places (in sync with Swachh Bharat Mission) and planting forest trees. 

His brainchild is the organization “Abhinandan Education and Rural Development Society, Maski” that has a single point agenda which is societal improvement. He gives platform to the rural talent by mentoring them and hosting the events attended by the relevant. He also hosts daily quiz competitions for the citizens which can be attended by everyone irrespective of their place and position. The daily winners will get a certificate of appreciation for exhibiting their intelligence. This programme has completed 500 episodes which is a landmark for any such events done in this region. During the summer, he installed water feeders for birds. He honours the achievers who have contributed to the society by distributing books that motivates them to serve more. While he serves, he ensures no needy should be left behind so he does a survey of poor and the needy in the society and keeps a log of that which comes handy during distressed times. He also goes out and freely shares his knowledge in women empowerment and government schemes on various platforms which has helped many poor women realise their dreams in the region. He hosts Job fairs for the unemployed youth of this region. For kids he hosts regular competitions in Music and Literature with an aim to bring in the quality of appreciating good things around in the minds of society. He was there serving the victims during the North Karnataka floods. He conducts educational programmes for youths pursuing competitive exams. He holds public gatherings to recognize patriotic events such as “Kargil Day” and birth anniversaries of National Heroes, this is his effort to instill national pride in fellow citizens. He took care of the election duty officers to Maski town and the nearby villages during state and national elections. His contribution to the society has been recognized by the District administration of Raichur Karnataka by honoring “Rajyotsava Award” that is given to citizens with highest interest in the society. His octogenarian father still leads the daily life by running a roadside pan shop.
